Details of experience
I started making websites at 12 when discovering all the computers at my school came with Microsoft FrontPage. After several months of making very basic webpages with the WYSIWYG editor I discovered text based browser games using PHP and so I got myself a copy of SAMS Teach Yourself PHP4 in 24 hours. This was a great book that took me through all the basics and how to use a database.
Afterwards I found the very simple (and open source) "Kill Monster" game and modified it extensively, separating the pages, adding new code, re-writing old code and then I had created my first Mafia text based browser game called "Mini Mobz".
During its final stages of completion another bigger browser game was in the making and required help, called DownTown Mafia, and I volunteered to help. I was asked to present work I had created and also asked to fix one bug before I officially started working as an admin on the site.
After 2 years of creating new features, implementing security and fixing bugs I left DTM to focus on my exams.
During my time away from PHP and web development I found an interest in C++ and video games. I left school and joined a technicians college course which I hated and dropped out but then applied for a Video Games course at another college which taught me how to use PASCAL which was extremely easy to use due to similarities to PHP, and also learned how to use Visual Basic 6, of which we were set to make individual projects of making our own simple game.
After college I took 2 years away from education, working behind the bar of a local stadium (where I still work 3 days a week), and freelancing for websites.
This year I will be starting a Games software engineering course at Wolverhampton University to give me some proper help and experience in Games Development.
I hope to achieve to become a professional games developer in the future.
